Trademarks – Filing Requirements

NOTES : If the legalized document is not ready at the time of filing, we can file the non-legalized copy and then provide the legalized document within three (3) months.

NOTES : It is possible to record change transactions (name, address, assignment, merger, etc) either for applications under examination (before issuing an acceptance decision for publication by the Trademark Office) or for registered trademarks.
Industrial Design
Information For Industrial Design Registration In Bahrain
- You can claim priority according to Paris Convention within: 6 months from the first filing date.
- Member of: Paris Convention.
- Period of protection of a design: 10 years from the filing date, renewable only once for a period of five (5) years, making the design protected for a total of fifteen (15) years.
- Time to pay publication fees after grant (acceptance): directly after acceptance.
- Time to pay registration fees after publication: directly after the end of publication period.
- Annuities: annuity fees are due on the anniversary of the design publication date. A grace period of six (6) months is granted for the late annuity payment with a penalty fee.
- Allowed time to submit the assignment deed from the date of signing the agreement: no time restrictions.
INDUSTRIAL DESIGN FILING REQUIREMENTS
- Power of attorney legalized or apostille.
- A copy for each section of the design from different angles covering all aspects.
- Extract of the commercial register if the applicant is a local company.
- Business license if the applicant is a foreign company.
- Deed of assignment document if the applicant is not the inventor.
NOTES : Late filing of documents: not allowed.
INDUSTRIAL DESIGN ASSIGNMENT
- Power of attorney signed by the assignor legalized, and a separate power by the assignee.
- Deed of assignment document legalized or apostille.

Patent
Information For Patents Filing In Bahrain
1- The Applicant can claim priority according to Paris Convention within: 12 months from the first filing date.
2- Bahrain Is A Member of ( PCT, Paris Convention, GCC ) .
3- Period of protection of a patent: 20 years.
4- Annuities: are to be paid after the grant, calculated from the filing date or the priority date. A grace period of six (6) months is granted for the late filing of the annuity with the payment of a penalty fee.
Allowed time to submit the assignment deed from the date of signing the agreement: no time restrictions.
PATENT FILING REQUIREMENTS
- Power of attorney legalized or apostille.
- Extract of the Commercial Register or the Memorandum of Association if the applicant is a company.
- The full particulars of the applicant if the applicant is an individual.
- Certified copy of priority document if claimed, with a certified translation.
- Deed of assignment document if the applicant is not the inventor.
- The title of the patent and a summary description of the invention (abstract) in English and Arabic.
- The full description of the invention, with a certified Arabic translation.
- The claims of the patent, with a certified Arabic translation.

NOTES :
- The power, the commercial register, the priority document, and the assignment document can be filed within three (3) months from the filing date.
- The certified translation of the description and the claims can be provided within four (4) months from the filing date.

PCT Filing
Bahrain Is A Member of PCT, Paris Convention Since ,18 March 2007
To enter the PCT national phase in Bahrain :
- It is necessary to provide a verified translation into Arabic or English of the description, claims and text matter of drawings. The translation into English must be filed on entering the PCT national phase and the authorized Arabic translation may be submitted within 4 months after the national phase entry.
- A copy of the Priority Document is not required by the Office.
- Authorization of an agent or Power of Attorney is required to be filed within 3 months from the date of receipt of the invitation by the Office if not already filed.
- Examination of a PCT national phase patent application in Bahrain
Patent applications in Bahrain under go formal and substantive examinations. - Fee for conducting the substantive examination should be paid upon receipt of the corresponding notification from the Bahraini Patent Office.
